Ritalin 10 mg Tablet: An Overview
Ritalin 10 mg tablets contain methylphenidate hydrochloride, a central nervous system stimulant.
1. Uses:
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): Ritalin 10 mg is commonly prescribed to manage symptoms of ADHD, such as inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity in children and adults.
- Narcolepsy: It can also be used to treat narcolepsy, a sleep disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness.
2. How it Works:
- Methylphenidate is believed to work by increasing the levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, including norepinephrine and dopamine, which are thought to play a role in attention, focus, and wakefulness.
3. Dosage and Administration:
- For ADHD: The usual starting dose for children is 5 mg once or twice daily, which may be gradually increased by a doctor as needed. Adults typically start with 20-30 mg per day, taken in divided doses.
- For Narcolepsy: The dosage is similar to that used for ADHD.
- Important: Always take Ritalin 10 mg exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
